
The Martello Towers
There were 50 signal towers during the Napoleonic because these particular towers were erected as a type of coastal defence that would alert the rest of the country of French invasion.
All towers are places strategically so that each tower will give off signal in sequence until all the coast is lit up!
There are 12 towers built in North Dublin. the First being at Red Rock Sutton Creek.
The only Tower available for viewing is Martello Tower because it was turned to a vintage radio museum.
Its a popular tourist spot especially during the summer because it beautiful panoramic views of Howth Harbour all the way to Portmarnock!
The Martello tower is the largest tower in all of Dublin. This because it can heavy calibre artillery weapons on its roof!
This ancient and weathered Martello tower is one of 2 buildings that were built on Howth and its companion the ancient ruin of St. Nessan's Church.
