Aideen's Grave

Howth is very centred around its history. Aideen's Grave is the oldest monument that was uncovered thanks to the stories and myths of the Fianna.

The Fianna were known to be reputable hunter warriors, who were known to travel throughout Ireland during their reign. which left legendary folk tales behind in almost every county. One of the most well known ones is Salmon of Knowledge.

Howth has a direct lineage with this particular family through Fionn's grandson Oscar. He was known as a great warrior and a poet in Irish methodology. After marring Aideen, he went to fight the battle of Gabhra. Having slain the first 3 kings he died. After the news spread Aideen died shortly after.

It was said that she died of heart ache and sorrow. Her body was laid to rest in Howth in what is now known as Aideen's Grave. Although it collapsed its still enchanting.

Aideen's Grave is located behind the Deer Park Hotel on the grounds of Howth Castle estate

Overtime the portal tomb have collapsed under the weight of the Capstone, However two of the wall stones and door still stand.
